Towards the end of the summer school at the local Lycee, the teachers started preparing some things to show the parents. With about 200 children a day, I can only imagine how hard this was to organise, let alone give a performance of a high standard. So, as you can tell, I wasn't expecting much when I was told there would be a show for the parents. However, I soon had to eat my words... |
One of the first acts (photo opposite) was about The Red Cross and the children acted out the recovery position amongst other First Aid practices. They really had learnt a range of things during the summer school! The next act involved Karate, in which about 5 boys carried out some very smooth moves at the command of a little girl. This little girl then proceeded to join in and demonstrated how to take down each and every boy in the group. I wish I had taken a photo or video but I was too entertained to remember to do so! The following act was a play, which seemed very fun according to the laughter of the parents but I didn't quite understand unfortunately. The kids had obviously learnt their lines to perfection and performed it with true Senegalese attitude! Then, it moved onto the dancing! The videos on the right are of two groups of dancers. The title of this blog came to me when I was watching these girls, just thinking about how amazing they were at dancing in comparison to me. Their confidence, attitude and ability to move their bodies in ways I didn't think was possible was crazy. | |
All in all, not bad for a summer school!
