As the projects in Rwanda can no longer go ahead as planned for this year, I will instead be going to my reserve country: Senegal! It’s quite a change in country and project: from an average summer temperature of 20 degrees in Rwanda to 30 degrees in Senegal and from teaching in a primary school to teaching in a community centre. Yet despite the differences, I feel just as excited about this project and, now that I know exactly where I’m going, I just can’t wait to go!
I will be spending my year in the town of Kaolack, Senegal, where I will be working in a community English and IT resource centre: teaching these two subjects to all ages, but mostly teenagers. With another Project Trust volunteer, I will be running the centre: timetabling, creating and providing these lessons. Also, this centre has provided several local schools with IT equipment and the teachers come into the centre on a weekly basis to learn how to use these resources in their lessons. I hope to develop this link between the schools whilst I am there.
In order to prepare for this project, I will be taking a TEFL course in July, in addition to two weeks Project Trust’s training. Also due to the change of countries, I will be changing my blog to www.susannahousesenegal.weebly.com shortly, so keep an eye out on my blog for warnings of the change!
